Following instructions leads to pre-determined results.

Creating is not just a horse of a different color.

It is a whole new species that can come out of thin air at times. Creating can be a surprise!

I  had no intentions of making a lego bot/person with a couple picket signs when I was playing with  my 7 year old  son yesterday, it just happened.

Why ?

Because I allowed creativity to flow with no particular  intention or goal.

Sure following instructions can be useful to learn,

but not nearly as much of a craft as to learn to make your own.

  1. Dan Mess says:

I’ve found that my creativity has expanded with oddly enough, my cellphone upgrade over the summer from the droid to the iPhone.
As I told my wife, it has really reinvigorated my love of photography. How? The iPhone’s terrific camera, and the myriad “apps” available allow me to try new and different things with photography, I couldn’t otherwise do with my Nikon. I haven’t given up on the Nikon…but as a photographer once said “the best camera is the one you have with you,” and the fact is, I almost always have my phone (and therefore iPhone camera) with me.
Add to it the app I downloaded on New Year’s Day – “Photo 365” that inspires me to take at least one photo every day of the year. Thus far, I’ve kept up with it…and it truly inspires me to really look at the world around me a little closer.

That is awesome Dan! I am gald to hear that you have been inspired. You have always had a great eye, it would be a shame not to use it. My best days are those when I am in that mode of really noticing life. It is great when technology helps us reconnect with the raw simplicity of life.
